Job summary

AdventHealth in Orlando, FL is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our team. You will create patient accounts, verify demographics, determine Medicaid eligibility, coordinate with insurers and providers to ensure accurate billing and timely payments.

Strong English communication is required; Spanish is a plus. The position offers day shift, full-time hours, and a comprehensive benefits package from day one, including healthcare, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Qualifications

  • Requires professional English communication, both written and verbal.
  • Spanish language ability is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update patient accounts with accurate demographics and account type.
  • Ensure all financial assessments are clear and thorough to expedite billing.
  • Monitor email, faxes, and calls; research questions and pre-certification issues within defined time frames.
  • Determine Medicaid eligibility and direct patients/families to appropriate agencies for Medicaid/charity.
  • Obtain medical records and documentation to ensure timely payment of accounts.
  • Contact insurance companies for referral numbers or pre-certification/authorization and document accordingly.
  • Direct patients to appropriate specialists and vendors based on insurance.
  • Reconcile charges with daily schedule to ensure accurate billing.
  • Support pre-certifications and authorizations; stay current with online eligibility tools.

Job Description

Location - 2501 N. Orange Ave Suite 235 Shift - 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Creates patient accounts accurately and timely, ensuring patient demographics and account information are appropriate for the patient account type. Ensures all financial assessments are clear, updated, and thorough to expedite billing of patient accounts. Monitors email inbox, faxes, and responds to phone calls, researching questions, patient account requests, pre-certification issues, and other related documentation within defined time frames. Screens patients who may be Medicaid eligible and directs them or their family members to proper agencies to acquire Medicaid and/or charity. Obtains medical records or other required documentation to assure timely payment of the account. Contacts insurance companies for referral numbers or pre-certification/authorization and documents accordingly. Directs patients to appropriate specialists and vendors according to their insurance. Reconciles charges to the daily schedule to ensure accurate billing. Completes special projects or performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Maintains current and thorough knowledge of online eligibility and pre-certification tools to provide consistent service to patients and clinical partners. Pre-certifies applicable patient accounts in a timely manner, ensuring authorizations are correct and benefits are accurately documented.

  • Uses discretion when discussing personnel/patient related issues that are confidential in nature
  • Responsive to ever-changing matrix of practice needs and acts accordingly

  • Capable of communicating professionally and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Has clear understanding & working knowledge of rules and regulations of contracted insurance
  • Requires a broad knowledge of health care services
  • Registration knowledge helpful
  • Prior authorization and Medicare guidelines helpful
  • Knowledge of patient EMR
  • Fluency in Spanish [Preferred]
Education
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
Field of Study

Work Experience
  • 1+ hospital patient access or medical office experience [Required]
  • Coding experience [Preferred]
  • ICD-10 experience [Preferred]
