Job Description

Note: This night shift is 36 hours over 3 days - Sat/Sun/Mon, 7pm to 7:30am.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Provides support services for clinical or anatomical laboratories by resolving issues with orders and specimens, responding to telephone inquiries regarding test results and specimen collection criteria. Responsibilities include preparing coolers for blood delivery, receiving blood product inventory, scanning digital slides, filing slides and tissue blocks, and performing equipment maintenance. Receives and delivers specimens and reports, and compiles case data to ensure correct testing is performed. Performs CLIA Waived Lab Testing where applicable. Registers and accessions patient material as required.

Support functions may include developing and maintaining ordering and inventory systems, assisting with employee timekeeping, processing lab invoices, data entry, and maintaining glassware. Maintains workload records, including quality control. Receives specimens, performs pre-analytical procedures such as accessioning, verifying specimen acceptability, aliquoting, plating, preparing smears, and shipping specimens according to policy.

Depending on location, provides courier services for internal and external deliveries, ensuring timely transportation.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements

Dependent on site: valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record if required for site transfers.

Experience
  • Required: Previous experience in a clinical or reference laboratory, or college-level lab coursework. Experience with computers and data entry.
  • Preferred: At least 2 years of laboratory experience handling specimens and applying basic lab principles.
Education/Training
  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: One year of post-high school education in a Health Science field.
Additional Requirements
  • Complete ongoing continuing education.
  • Customer service-oriented communication skills.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Other requirements include rotating weekends, holiday scheduling, and overtime as needed.

Physical and Emotional Requirements
  • Physical: Lifting less than 20 lbs., prolonged standing and sitting, reaching, repetitive motions.
  • Activities involve exposure to biohazards, infectious fluids, hazardous chemicals, and reagents.
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
  • Emotional: Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to change.
