Job summary

Banner University Medical Group in Tucson, Arizona, seeks an experienced academic pathologist to serve as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Medical Director of Laboratories at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson. The role includes leadership of laboratory operations and an active clinical practice, with a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson.

Qualifications

• MD/DO or equivalent clinical doctoral degree.
• Board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Arizona.
• Leadership experience in clinical laboratory operations (e.g., Medical Director).
• Demonstrated experience in laboratory oversight, quality, regulatory compliance, and multidisciplinary leadership.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical and strategic leadership for Anatomic and Clinical Pathology laboratory operations.
• Serve as Laboratory Medical Director and ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, CMS, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Oversee quality assurance, proficiency testing, test validation, utilization, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with hospital and system leadership on laboratory strategy, service expansion, technology, and operational priorities.
• Serve as a physician liaison between laboratory services, medical staff, and hospital/system leadership.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, and development of pathology faculty and staff.
• Maintain an active clinical practice in AP and/or CP and participate in call.
• Participate in education, mentorship, and scholarly activities within the department.
