Job summary

The Brigham and Women’s Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to perform clerical and technical duties under general supervision. Responsibilities include receipt, accessioning, centrifugation and decanting of patient specimens, and communication with clinicians at the Front Window and over the phone.

This role does not involve direct patient care. Responsibilities include labeling, preservation and fixation of specimens; coordinating with technologists to ensure timely processing;

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of laboratory, healthcare, and/or customer service experience.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with lab staff and hospital personnel.
  • Ability to multitask and work accurately under time constraints and heavy workload.
  • Demonstrates dependability, reliability, accuracy, prioritization, problem solving, and teamwork.

  • Monitor reagent and supply inventory.

Summary

Performs a variety of clerical and technical duties under general supervision. Reports to a Laboratory Supervisor. Responsibilities include receipt, accessioning, centrifugation and decanting of patient specimens, and communicating with clinicians at the Front Window and over the phone. Does this position require Patient Care? No

Essential Functions
  • Assist with labeling, preservation and fixation of specimens.
  • Work closely with technologists to ensure specimens are processed timely and accurately.

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Previous laboratory, healthcare and/or customer service experience 1-2 years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Good interpersonal and communication skills so as to be able to interact effectively with individuals in the lab and the hospital. - Ability to multitask and work accurately under stress of time constraints and heavy workload demands. - Demonstrates excellent dependability, reliability, accuracy, prioritization ability, problem solving skills, customer service and teamwork.
