Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital in Weston, FL is seeking a Pathology Laboratory Assistant to join our Laboratory team. You will perform diagnostic support, process specimens, and help maintain lab workflows in a fast-paced setting.

The role requires handling specimens, operating equipment, and participating in quality assurance to support millions of tests annually. Work is day/evening with a 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. shift, contributing to safe, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and Cleveland Clinic policies.
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

• Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting, and storing specimens.
• Operate laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, trouble shooting and minor repairs.

• Maintain adequate stock of supplies; performs inventory management of transporting and distributing supplies.

A caregiver in this role works a day/evening rotation from 10:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform various laboratory procedures.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and Cleveland Clinic policies
• Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Pathology or microbiology lab assistant background
• Previous experience in a lab
• Histology experience
• Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology

Physical Requirements:

Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation. Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed. Requires frequent sitting or standing.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
