An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Lab Assistant II to join their team. This role involves crucial responsibilities such as accessioning specimens, preparing slide trays, and maintaining lab organization. The Lab Assistant II is responsible for accessioning specimens, preparing slide trays, filing of blocks and slides, and assisting with all aspects of lab organization and maintenance. Lab Assistant II have the educational requirements to pursue the HT/L certification program.
Here are just a few things we offer:
1. Receive specimens into lab.
2. Release orders in LIS.
3. Prepare 70% and 80% ROH solutions following proper procedure.
4. Recycle of ROH and Xylene.
5. Change solutions on H&E stainer daily.
6. Prepare specimens and blocks for grossing.
7. Perform tissue embedding upon completion of in-house training and competency assessment.
8. Prepare blocks for techs after embedding, including but not limited to, cleaning and organizing blocks prior to tech microtome cutting.
9. Assist with H&E slide preparation, including loading and unloading of slides into/from auto-stainer, and operating cover slipper.
10. Prepare slide trays and requisitions prior to delivery to pathologists.
11. Daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning of lab equipment and tools per schedule.
12. Dump formalin vials and neutralize formalin following proper procedure.
13. Record daily lab temperatures as listed on QC sheets.
14. Receiving and stocking of general lab supplies. Perform monthly inventory as assigned.
15. Record orders on work lists and pull blocks for techs.
16. Slide, block, and requisition filing.
17. Adherence to compliance and completion of compliance training.
18. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education
1. Associate or bachelor’s Degree in a science related field required.
2. Previous experience in a lab environment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Must be flexible with hours to meet workflow demands.
2. Knowledge of general medical terminology is preferred.
3. Ability to type a minimum of 45 wpm with minimal errors is preferred.
4. Must possess attention to detail.
5. Must possess excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills.
6. Must display a friendly, cheerful, tactful and polite demeanor and must be compassionate and caring in dealing with others.
7. Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
8. Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
9. Ability to understand physician’s instructions/handwriting and know when to seek additional information or clarification.
10. Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism and direction from supervisors.
11. Must demonstrate professional appearance and manner at all times.
12. Must remain compliant with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA requirements.
13. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Physical Demands
1. Ability to communicate in an active multi-office environment.
2. Ability to efficiently operate all job-related office equipment (telephone, computer, calculator, fax, copier).
