Job summary

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - Pathology Lab to join our team. The successful candidate will screen and accession specimens into EPIC Beaker, reconcile specimen information, and manage work queues and transport coordination within the pathology department in Manhattan.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and 0–6 months in a lab, with strong medical terminology knowledge and proficient data entry and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 0–6 months experience in a laboratory.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent computer/data entry and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Specimen Acceptance: sign off on all received specimens and ensure logs match.
• Specimen Reconciliation: verify each specimen against requisition and viability criteria.
• Specimen Accessioning: timely accessioning into Epic Beaker database and verify demographics.
• Specimen Distribution: route cases for grossing and notify staff of frozen sections.
• Laboratory Maintenance: assist with cleanliness and inventory as needed.
• Second Tier Accessioning/Epic Workqueues: perform second tier accessioning and fix errors.
• Proficient use of EPIC and Epic Beaker as directed.
• Escalation: notify supervisor of delays or issues requiring attention.
