Job summary

Mount Sinai Hospital seeks a Pathologist Assistant to support pathologists in receipt, preparation, and examination of surgical specimens and autopsies. You will ensure specimens are logged, processed and documented with clinical data and imaging as needed.

Responsibilities include gross description, dissection, accessioning, frozen section support, and data reporting. ASCP certification is preferred; 1 year surgical grossing/autopsy experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science with at least 5 year of experience as Pathologist Assistant or Bachelors or Masters degree in Pathology Assistant program with no experience
  • ASCP Certification as Pathologists Assistant preferred
  • 1 year surgical grossing and autopsy experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist in receipt, preparation and gross description of surgical specimens and autopsies.
  • Coordinate and/or perform gross descriptions and dissections of surgical and autopsy specimens.
  • Coordinate frozen section activities with the Frozen Section Laboratory; prepare slides as needed.
  • Assist in postmortem examination with dissection, sample submission and gross findings dictation.
  • Ensure specimens are logged, processed and disposed of safely and timely.
  • Gather data and prepare statistical turnaround time reports.
  • Instruct residents and surgical fellows on processing of large specimens dissections.
  • Perform other related duties.
