Job summary

LCMC Health in New Orleans is seeking a Pathologist Assistant or physician with extensive grossing experience to support pathology operations. You will assist pathologists with accessioning, dissection, and histologic sampling across a full range of specimens, including intra-operative consultations, and you will coordinate tissue acquisition and digital imaging.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited Pathologist Assistant program is required for a Pathology Assistant if not a physician.
• Licensed physician with greater than 5 years’ experience in Grossing will be considered in lieu of accredited Pathology Assistant program graduates.

Responsibilities

• Performs and/or assists pathologists in accessioning, dissection, description, and histologic sampling of specimens and autopsy techniques.
• Supervises and trains entry level resident physicians in gross room pathology methods under supervision.
• Performs frozen sections and intra-operative consultations within protocol.
• Maintains a file of digital images and ensures specimen photography standards.
• Participates in accessioning, labeling, storage, and disposal of specimens and maintenance of reagents and equipment.
• Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
• Troubleshoots to ensure sample integrity and proper identification; interacts with stakeholders involved in tissue acquisition.
• Participates in post mortem activities as needed.
