Job summary

MercyOne Genesis is seeking a highly motivated Pathology Assistant to join our collaborative and well-established pathology team. Qualifications

• Must hold a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant master's degree.
• ASCP certification (or eligible) preferred.
• Strong knowledge of anatomic pathology techniques and procedures.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and description of surgical specimens.
• Prepare and submit tissue for light microscopy and special studies.
• Coordinate and obtain specimens for advanced testing (e.g., flow cytometry, cytogenetics, cultures, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy).
• Collaborate with pathologists to determine appropriate special techniques (e.g., tumor triage, frozen sections, toxicology, perfusion).
• Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and documentation.
• Obtain relevant clinical history and medical records for case review.
• Maintain and follow surgical pathology protocols.
• Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
• Support organ/tissue procurement and research requests as needed.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and assist with CAP and Joint Commission inspections.
• Ensure cleanliness and readiness of grossing suites.
