Job summary

Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX is hiring an Accessioning Clerk to accession surgical pathology specimens under supervision. Training for gross dissection may be provided after competency is demonstrated.

Location is 2575 West Bellfort Suite 200, Houston, TX 77054; hours are Mon-Fri, 1pm-9:30pm. Reliability, attendance, and teamwork are essential due to downstream impact on patient care and lab operations.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is required.
No experience required.

Responsibilities

Receive, sort, and accession specimens entering the lab into the LIS.
Create specimen cassettes and slides and verify accession numbers.
Time stamps patient requisitions upon receipt and sorts specimens.
Enter patient demographics, physician data, clinical history, specimen information, and test orders into the LIS.
Follow established safety and laboratory procedures at all times and do not deviate.
Follow supervisor directions and support quality and efficiency within the department.
Communicate issues or shift handoffs clearly to management and coworkers.
Assist with equipment maintenance as directed by the manager.
Prepare FNA slides and perform FNA.
Prepare frozen section slides.
Dispose of samples after analysis.
Distribute slides in a timely manner.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
