Job summary

Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an Accessioning Clerk - Pathology for the Houston area. This onsite, part-time role supports surgical pathology accessioning under supervision and may include training for gross dissection after competency.

Hours are 1:00pm - 9:30pm, two days per week at 2575 West Bellfort Suite 200, Houston, TX 77054. The position notes nonexempt status with no benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• No experience required.
• Two years of laboratory setting experience (preferred).
• 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry from a regionally accredited college/university.

Responsibilities

• Receives, sorts, and accessions all specimens entering the laboratory into the LIS.
• Creates specimen cassettes and slides and verifies accurate transposition of accession numbers generated by the LIS.
• Enters patient demographics, physician and clinical information, clinical history, specimen information, and test orders into the LIS.
• Follows established safety and laboratory procedures at all times and does not deviate in an attempt to save time.
• Communicates with management and coworkers when issues arise or for shift handoff.
• Assists with equipment maintenance as directed by manager.
• Prepares FNA slides and performs FNA.
• Prepares frozen section slides.
• Disposes of samples after analysis is complete.
• Distributes slides in a timely manner.
