Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The role involves complex surgical pathology, autonomy, and close collaboration with pathologists and residents, contributing to education and laboratory practice.

You will work with subspecialty pathologists, residents, histology staff, and lab leadership in a busy academic environment with a broad case mix, engaging in quality improvement and education initiatives.

Qualifications

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section with pathologists during time-sensitive decisions.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in grossing techniques and surgical pathology.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section, working directly with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate orientation and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult specimens and promote high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and learners, pursuing academic titles when possible.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, and leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, and education initiatives.
