Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The role offers meaningful professional autonomy, collaboration with pathologists and residents, and involvement in education and laboratory practice.

You will work with subspecialty pathologists, residents, histology staff, and leadership in a busy academic setting, contributing to quality improvement and innovative workflow.

Qualifications

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section, working directly with pathologists during time-sensitive clinical decision-making.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate specimen orientation, sampling, and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult or unusual specimens and contribute to consistent, high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in gross examination, dissection, specimen handling, and surgical pathology technique.
• Work collaboratively with pathologists, residents, histology staff, operating room personnel, and laboratory leadership to continuously improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, education, and other departmental initiatives according to your interests and experience.

Responsibilities
