Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This role offers opportunities to engage in complex and diverse surgical pathology with meaningful autonomy and close collaboration with pathologists and residents.

You will work in a busy academic environment with a broad case mix, teaching residents and learners, and contributing to educational and laboratory practices.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• ASCP certification as a Pathologists' Assistant (PA(ASCP)) required or eligible.
• New York State Pathologists' Assistant license required or eligible to obtain licensure.
• Strong knowledge of gross anatomy, surgical pathology, specimen handling and laboratory safety.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure proper orientation and submission.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and learners in gross examination and surgical pathology techniques.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff and lab leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation and education initiatives.
