Job summary

Albany Med seeks a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Albany Medical Center. The role entails gross examination, sampling, and collaboration with pathologists and residents in a busy academic setting.

Qualifications

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section, working with pathologists during time-sensitive decisions.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate orientation, sampling and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult or unusual specimens and maintain high-quality grossing practices.

Responsibilities

• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in gross examination, dissection, specimen handling, and surgical pathology technique.
• Work collaboratively with pathologists, residents, histology staff, operating room personnel, and leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, education, and other departmental initiatives according to interests and experience.
