Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to support the Surgical Pathology department. You will assist pathologists in gross examination of surgical specimens and autopsies, performing dissections and documenting findings to guide microscopic analysis.

The role may include coverage at affiliate sites and training of residents in grossing techniques. Requirements include a Master’s degree in a pathologists' assistant program or an equivalent education/experience

• Master's degree in pathologists' assistant program or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists pathologists and residents in gross examination of surgical specimens and autopsies.
• Dissects specimens, documents gross descriptions, and ensures proper tissue submission for microscopic exam.
• Provides coverage at affiliates as needed and trains residents in grossing techniques.
• Performs special techniques (frozen sections, cytology prep, flow cytometry, etc.).
• Supports the Postmortem Medicine Unit during autopsies and participates in related requests.
