Responsibilities

• Assist, under the supervision of the pathologist, in the selection, preparation, and dissection of surgical tissue sections for microscopic examination and other studies.
• Assist in photography and gross description of surgical specimens.
• Ensure accuracy of patient information and gross descriptions of surgical specimens.
• Prepare tissue sections for intraoperative consultations, including embedding, cutting, and staining.
• Procure tissue samples for biorepository, ancillary studies, or research purposes.
• Use Faxitron for x-ray imaging and send images to PACS system.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and cleanliness necessary for dissection.
• Assist in preparing materials for teaching exercises.
• Perform computer system functions for timely reporting of results.
• Support staff and residents in post-mortem examinations, including photography and dissection.
• Perform other duties as assigned, adhering to organizational standards.

Qualifications

Education and experience required include:

• Master's Degree from a NAACLS-accredited institution as a Pathologists' Assistant with relevant training, OR MD degree with or without ASCP-PA certification and 5+ years grossing experience, OR a Bachelor's degree in health sciences or related field with 8-10 years of experience as a PA.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office or Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree.

Licenses and Certifications

• ASCP certification or eligibility; preferred with documented competencies.
