Job summary

Sharp HealthCare in San Diego is seeking a Pathologist Assistant to provide accurate processing of a full spectrum of surgical specimens under the supervision of a pathologist. You will support the laboratory services with detailed gross descriptions, sample selection for special studies, and preparation for light microscopy.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree and ASCP Pathologist Assistant certification, which must be obtained within 6 months of the start date.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Pathologist Assistant PA(ASCP) certification required.
• ASCP Pathologist Assistant certification must be obtained within 6 months of start date.
• Preferred: 2 years experience grossing simple to complex cases (Levels 1–2B).

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and timely processing of a full spectrum of laboratory specimens under the direction of a pathologist.
• Describe gross features of tissue for processing and select samples for special studies.
• Prepare tissue samples for processing and for light microscopy; assist with tumor triage and related tasks.
• Photograph gross specimens and slides; assist in specimen accessioning and maintaining protocols.
• Coordinate with pathologists to identify special techniques and ensure quality and compliance.
