Job summary

Dorsey & Whitney LLP is seeking a Patent Paralegal for our Denver, Minneapolis or Salt Lake City offices. This hybrid role focuses on U.S. and foreign patent docketing, deadlines, and client communications, with on-site requirements.

You will assist attorneys in managing patent portfolios, drafting correspondence, and coordinating international filings while ensuring precise, timely actions across multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or paralegal program completed.
• 2–5 years of related patent prosecution experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication; ability to set priorities.
• Ability to manage client portfolio work distribution and track workflow.
• Proactive problem solving and independent judgement.
• Knowledge of patent process, docketing and filing responsibilities.
• Experience with USPTO online databases and electronic filing.
• Experience with international patent databases and docketing systems.
• Familiarity with Foundation IP preferred.
• Strong research skills and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage U.S. and foreign patent prosecution dockets and deadlines.
• Draft correspondence to clients regarding patent prosecution events.
• Communicate with clients on routine or procedural events under attorney guidance.
• Manage patent portfolios and ensure accuracy of files and filings.
• Prepare and file patent documents for USPTO and international matters.
• Coordinate with local counsel on international filings.
• Create and maintain information disclosure statements in the IP docket system.
• Support due diligence projects and status updates in the docket.
• Research country-specific filing requirements and present for attorney action.
• Apply patent procedures and terminology to paralegal tasks.
