Job summary

Jobtailor in New York seeks an experienced paralegal/legal assistant to support U.S. patent prosecution and client management. You will handle docketing, filing preparation, and communications with clients and attorneys, coordinating with foreign associates as needed.

The role requires 5+ years in patent prosecution or a BA/paralegal certification with equal experience, strong MS Office skills, and familiarity with IP management tools. Hybrid or on-site work expectations may apply.

Qualifications

  • BA degree and/or paralegal certificate or minimum of 5 years experience in U.S. patent prosecution.
  • Familiarity with electronic case management systems and USPTO rules; IPFolio, Memotech a plus.
  • Familiarity with U.S. trademark prosecution a plus.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database usage.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines under supervision.
  • Strong docketing and file maintenance skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide client management support for attorneys, including written and verbal communications, and maintain docket and client procedures.
  • Assist attorneys in prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. and foreign countries.
  • Establish and maintain patent files, prepare filings, amendments, IDS, assignments, and issue fee payments.
  • Review correspondence from USPTO and foreign associates for essential docketing.
  • Maintain client portfolios and facilitate communication between attorney and client.
  • Maintain and update docketing log spreadsheet.
  • Communicate with attorneys, clients, and foreign associates.
  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed.
