Job summary

HG Law LLP, with offices in New York City, San Jose and London, seeks Technical Advisors in our New York or San Jose offices. In this apprenticeship-style role you will work with patent attorneys, applying engineers’ technical backgrounds to protect client innovations worldwide.

Start date Summer 2027, no legal training required. You will primarily work in-person at one of our offices, conducting interviews, drafting applications, and analyzing technologies to build strong IP portfolios.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical/computer engineering or related field.
• Eligibility to become a registered patent agent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Excellent academic record and communication skills.
• Ability to work in-person at NY or SJ office.

Responsibilities

• Confer with inventors about their inventions and how best to protect their innovation.
• Prepare and prosecute patent applications.
• Analyze complex technologies and develop a deep understanding of clients’ inventions.
• Assist clients to assert their IP rights against infringers.
• Defend clients from improper assertion of third parties’ rights.
• Defend client patents against third party challenges.
• Conduct competitive landscape analyses.
