Patent Classification Specialist - Physics/Electrical Engineering

Join our team! We are looking for an enthusiastic, inquisitive Research Analyst/Patent Classification Specialist (PCS) to join our Patent Search and Innovation Intelligence Services Team. In this role, you will determine appropriate application classifications in accordance with the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) system and United States Patent Classification System (USPC) through technical knowledge, research, and automated tools.

About you - experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics, or physics
  • Experience and/or significant coursework in areas such as circuits, electronics, electrical systems, power systems, semiconductors, optics, testing systems, digital signal processing, etc.
  • At least 6 months of research experience through work, internships, or volunteering
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Resided in the U.S. for the past two consecutive years

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience with intellectual property (highly desirable)
  • Experience with circuits, electronics, electrical systems
  • Ability to work independently without excessive supervision
  • Proficiency with computer systems for research and classification operations
  • Capability to meet defined production and quality standards independently

Role responsibilities

  • Master the patent classification process
  • Assign classifications according to the Cooperative Patent Classification rules and definitions
  • Classify applications related to specific technologies
  • Continuously expand knowledge and expertise in new technologies
  • Collaborate closely with team members in a team environment

Hours of work

  • Full-time, permanent position
