Job description

Stinson LLP is seeking a highly motivated patent attorney to join its Dallas, Texas office. Major clients we advise include companies in medical devices; consumer devices; transportation; construction; agribusiness; sports and recreation; cannabis; heat, ventilating and air conditioning; infrastructure protection and repair; manufacturing equipment; and electrical and fiber optic connectors.

Responsibilities

This position’s responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in the mechanical engineering fields, drafting and reviewing intellectual‑property and technology‑related agreements and licenses, and providing patentability, freedom‑to‑operate and due‑diligence assessments.

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor, higher degree, or equivalent in Law
  • 7+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the mechanical arts.
  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar engineering degree and/or work experience
  • Excellent academic credentials and excellent research, writing, analytical, organizational and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, multi‑task efficiently and be an independent thinker.
  • U.S. Patent & Trademark Office registration.
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas.

Our attorney compensation structure has two components: (1) a base salary and (2) a discretionary merit bonus based on performance. The salary range for this role is $200,000 – $250,000. The range is an initial approximation at the time of posting and may vary based on an individual’s unique qualifications and experience.
