Job summary

TechStream is seeking an experienced Patent Attorney who combines strong patent-law expertise with technical aptitude, commercial judgment, and an interest in patent licensing and monetization.

This role works closely with licensing, legal, technical, and business teams to evaluate patents, develop licensing positions, support negotiations and enforcement activities, and identify opportunities to strengthen and expand TechStream's patent portfolios.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
• Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
• Technical or engineering background appropriate for sophisticated technology patent work.
• At least 4 years of patent prosecution experience.
• Experience analyzing patent claims and developing claim charts.
• Ability to analyze complex technical and legal issues and develop practical, commercially focused recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, chart and present patents from around the world.
• Work with outside counsel to develop infringement and validity positions and help execute enforcement strategies.
• Develop prosecution strategies that align with licensing and other monetization objectives, and work with outside counsel to implement them.
• Collaborate with TechStream's business team in evaluating new patent portfolios and technologies.

The Role

This is not a traditional patent prosecution position. The successful candidate will work closely with TechStream's licensing, legal, technical, and business teams to evaluate patents and technologies, develop licensing positions, support negotiations and enforcement activities, and identify opportunities to strengthen and expand TechStream's patent portfolios.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatent Licensing & Technical Analysis

• Includes analyzing, charting and presenting patents from around the world

Litigation & Enforcement Support

• Includes working with outside counsel and experts to develop infringement and validity positions and help execute enforcement strategies

Patent Portfolio Development & Prosecution

• Includes developing prosecution strategies that align with licensing and other monetization objections, and working with outside counsel to implement them

Patent Acquisitions & Transactions

• Includes working with TechStream's business team in evaluating new patent portfolios and technologies.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will be intellectually curious, commercially minded, and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where patent law, technology, litigation, and business strategy intersect.

The candidate should be capable of independently analyzing complex patents and technologies while also communicating conclusions clearly to executives, licensing professionals, engineers, outside counsel, and counterparties.

Required Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.

• At least 4 years of patent prosecution experience.
• Experience analyzing patent claims and developing claim charts.

Preferred Qualifications

• 6+ years of patent experience.
• Experience with patent licensing or patent monetization.
• Experience presenting legal and technical patent arguments in connection with prosecution, licensing, litigation, or similar matters.
• Experience with standard-essential patents and FRAND licensing.
• Experience with video coding (HEVC, VVC, AV1, AV2) and wireless (3GPP) technologies.
• Experience supporting patent litigation or enforcement matters.
• Experience conducting patent portfolio acquisition or investment due diligence.
• Experience managing significant U.S. and international patent portfolios.
