Diamond Personnel is assisting a highly respected IP law firm in finding a patent agent with a strong technical background. The role supports patent drafting and prosecution before the USPTO, and requires collaboration with inventors and lawyers.

The position allows hybrid work (3 days onsite/2 days remote) or fully remote anywhere in the U.S., with responsibilities spanning patent drafting, analysis of technical documents, and keeping pace with IP law developments.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of law firm patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or related field.
• Recent law firm experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Draft patent applications and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO.
• Analyze technical documents to assess an invention or issued patent.
• Draft detailed descriptions of inventions in precise legal terms for patent offices worldwide.
• Communicate with inventors and the USPTO regarding the patent application process.
• Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
• Keep up to date with developments in intellectual property law.
• Support patent litigation, due diligence, and other legal activities with lawyers.

Our client, a highly respected IP law firm, is seeking a patent agent with a strong technical background.

Schedule:

Hybrid 3/2, or fully remote anywhere in the U.S.

Responsibilities:

• Draft patent applications and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Analyze scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents, to assess an invention or issued patent.
• Draft detailed descriptions of inventions in precise legal terms (patent drafts), which form the basis for patents to be granted by patent offices in various parts of the world.
• Communicate and act as a liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office in connection with all aspects of the patent application process.
• Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
• Keep up to date with legal developments in the intellectual property field.
• Work closely with lawyers to support patent litigation, perform due diligence, and support other legal activities.

Qualifications:

• Have 2+ years of law firm patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Have a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
• Recent law firm experience is required.
