Nelson Mullins, AmLaw 60 Firm, is seeking a Patent Agent with a degree in engineering and/or computer science and a minimum of two years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution. The successful candidate will collaborate with attorneys in our Minneapolis, Charlotte, and Boston offices and will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

A Day in the Life

In this role, you will collaborate closely with attorneys and clients across a range of innovative industries, including medical devices, electronics, and more. While technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, biomedical, or a related engineering field is preferred, it is not required. We welcome applications from candidates seeking remote or hybrid work arrangements in locations where the Firm has offices, with a strong preference for those based in or near Minneapolis, Charlotte, or Boston.

Drawing on your experience in patent prosecution, you will play a key role in building and managing both U.S. and international patent portfolios. Working as part of a collaborative and solutions-focused team, you will contribute to drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting due diligence reviews, and performing freedom-to-operate and patent landscape analyses. This position is ideal for a team player who is eager to partner with colleagues and clients to navigate complex intellectual property challenges and uncover strategic opportunities.

We Know You

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, along with an undergraduate degree in engineering. While a background in mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering is preferred, it is not required. Strong academic credentials, excellent analytical abilities, and polished writing skills are essential for success in this role. Registration to practice before the USPTO is strongly preferred.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative and supportive environment where innovation and professional growth are valued. You will engage with a wide range of technologies and clients, benefit from mentorship by experienced colleagues, and have access to a clear path for career development.

At Nelson Mullins, we are dedicated totransparent and fair compensation practices. Pay for this position is determined by factors such as experience, skills, and location.

  • Salary/Wage Range: $115,000 - $145,000 annually. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for merit-based raises and benefits such as healthcare, retirement plans, and paid time off.
