Knowledge:

Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, contract reimbursement and methodology, and governing agencies for healthcare (i.e., HIPAA, EMTALA, Medicare). Basic arithmetic and math aptitude required.

Job Summary:
  1. Responsible for patient pre-registration, registration, admission, and/or order entry at designated locations such as BMH Outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), or ETMG Ancillary.
  2. Ensure account accuracy, process POS collections, and attach insurance authorizations to accounts when applicable.
  3. Communicate needs to appropriate personnel and provide excellent customer service aligning with the organization’s mission, vision, and standards.
Job Specifications:
  1. Education and/or experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; some college preferred. Experience in customer service, clerical healthcare, or public relations preferred.
  2. Proficiency with Windows-based systems, email, and websites required. Experience with ADT/EMR systems and scheduling/ordering systems preferred.
Skills:
  • Intermediate computer and data entry skills with accuracy, including a minimum 40 wpm keyboarding.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills that reflect organizational standards.
  • Attention to detail with excellent oral and written communication and active listening skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including calculating percentages and using a 10-key calculator.
Abilities:
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working directly with patients without a fixed workstation.
  • Ability to read and interpret provider orders and documentation.
  • Multi-tasking and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment, working independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work some weekends and holidays as needed.
