The Pastry Sous Chef oversees and performs daily food production related to desserts, maintaining standards of quality, cleanliness, profitability, and staff supervision.

This role requires working weekends and holidays due to business needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Executive Chef with supervising bakery staff, including hiring, coaching, and delegating tasks.
  • Participate in recipe development and special event planning.
  • Inspect bakery items for quality and presentation.
  • Work with leadership to control costs without compromising quality.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and report hazards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a high-volume kitchen.
  • Experience as a pastry cook, sous chef, or similar role.
  • Strong pastry and dessert skills.
  • Ability to prepare mise en place and handle closing duties.
  • Fast and accurate work ethic.
  • Availability to work during business hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Flexibility with shifts.

Physical & Working Conditions:

  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Exposure to cold, heat, and moisture.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds regularly.
  • Basic understanding of pastry cooking directions.
