The Hay-Adams in Washington, DC is seeking a dedicated Pastry Cook to join our luxury hotel kitchen. You will craft desserts and pastry items from approved recipes while maintaining quality and timing for service.

This on-site role requires 1–2 years of pastry experience in hotels with similar standards, a food handling certificate, and strong English communication. Attention to cleanliness, organization, and waste control is essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate; certification of culinary training or apprenticeship preferred.
• Minimum 1–2 years of pastry cook experience in hotels with similar standards.
• Food handling certificate.
• Able to read catering BEOs and assist in menu planning for desserts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of correct equipment use, safety, and sanitation.
• Follow state sanitation regulations and hotel requirements.
• Review assignments with Pastry or Executive Chef.
• Prepare all menu items following recipes and yield guides.
• Inform Chef of shortages before items run out.
• Inform staff of 86’d items and available specials.
• Maintain storage procedures per Health Department and hotel rules.
• Minimize waste and help control food costs.
• Assist in planning for catering and events.
