Job summary

Shaftesbury is a disability charity providing care, education, vocational and rehab services, with several FE colleges and schools. We seek a dedicated Pastoral Support Team Officer to work with our Pastoral Support Team Leader and specialists to ensure student safety and progress toward learning outcomes.

About Shaftesbury Statement

Shaftesbury is a disability charity offering care, education, vocational and rehab services. The charity also provides residential care, nursing, and supported living. In addition to Shaftesbury Nash College, Shaftesbury operates Shaftesbury Millie College, an FE college for students aged 16-25, and Shaftesbury Victoria School for students aged 3-19. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as physical and/or intellectual disabilities, and some have profound and complex learning needs.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about supporting young people and who has a deep understanding of the challenges students may face.

We are looking for a dedicated and adaptable individual to join our FE College as a Pastoral Support Team Officer. The successful candidate will work alongside Shaftesbury Education’s Pastoral Support Team Leader and other pastoral and behavioural specialists to provide support, advice, and guidance, ensuring students are safe and able to make progress towards learning outcomes. Specialist skills in behavioural or pastoral management are essential for this position and it is expected candidates will have, or be willing to undertake, a programme of study in Physical Intervention / De-escalation.

Key Responsibilities

• Dynamically risk assess environments/ incidents and respond delivering effective support for students and staff.
• Multi-task and prioritise own workload Whilst being proactive in your responses.
• A strong communicator, able to communicate professionally with colleagues and external teams.
• Experienced working in the fields of learning disability / complex needs.
• Provide one-on-one and group support for students facing emotional, social, or behavioural challenges.
• Collaborate with teachers, school leadership, and external agencies to develop personalised support plans for students.
• Monitor and track student progress, offering appropriate interventions when necessary.
• Assist in the development and delivery of pastoral care programs and workshops.
• Build strong relationships with students, offering guidance, support and encouragement.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, ensuring they are informed and involved in their child’s well being.
• Support students with transition periods, including moving between year groups or adapting to new challenges.
• Maintain confidential records and contribute to the safeguarding and welfare of all students.
