Job description

Pastoral Resident

Calvary Chapel Eagle Eagle, Idaho, United States

About this position
About Calvary Chapel Eagle

Calvary Chapel Eagle is located in Idaho’s beautiful Treasure Valley, just outside Boise. Since relaunching in October 2023 under the leadership of Pastor Brenen Beeler, we’ve seen over 200 first‑time commitments to Christ, 140+ baptisms, and launched more than 30 small groups. Our church is growing rapidly, and we’re passionate about seeing revival in our community and helping people become fully devoted followers of Jesus.

About the role

The Pastoral Residency exists to raise up the next generation of pastors and ministry leaders from within the life of Calvary Chapel Eagle. It is a hands-on, mentor-driven season of formation for someone who senses a call to vocational ministry and wants to be trained, tested, and shaped under the direct oversight of CCE’s pastoral staff. This happens not primarily in a classroom, but inside the actual rhythms of a growing local church.

A Pastoral Resident (“the Resident”) spends the term immersed in the full life of pastoral ministry: preaching and teaching the Word, shepherding people throughCGroupsand pastoral care, sitting in staff meetings and leadership conversations, and serving across CCE’s Pastoral, Administrative, and Creative ministry lanes. The goal is not simply to fill a staff role. It is to form a pastor: someone whose character, doctrine, and leadership have been tested in real ministry and are ready to be entrusted with the care of God’s people, whether that leads to a pastoral role at CCE or a sending out to serve elsewhere.

What you'll do

The residency is built on the same three movements that shape discipleship at CCE: Bible Study, Community, and Ministry, applied specifically to pastoral formation.

WORD & DOCTRINE: Know the Text, Teach the Text
  • Sit under, and be trained in, expository verse‑by‑verse preaching, which is CCE’s approach to the pulpit and the wider Calvary Chapel movement’s approach to Scripture.
  • Build a personal rhythm of daily Scripture and prayer that can sustain a lifetime of ministry, not just a preaching calendar.
  • Preach and teach in growing settings, including CGroups, midweek studies, and eventually the Sunday platform, with direct feedback from pastoral staff.
  • Complete an assigned reading and theology curriculum alongside weekly mentoring conversations with the Executive Pastor of Pastoral Ministries.
SHEPHERDING & COMMUNITY: Know the People, Carry the People
  • Lead or co‑lead a CGroup, applying the Word in real relationship and real accountability.
  • Walk alongside people through pastoral care, including hospital visits, crisis moments, and premarital or general counseling, under the direct supervision of a pastor.
  • Learn to shepherd well before being asked to shepherd alone: how to listen, how to counsel from Scripture, and how to carry people’s burdens without carrying them badly.
MINISTRY & LEADERSHIP: Know the House, Lead the House
  • Rotate through CCE’s three ministry lanes, Pastoral, Administrative, and Creative, to understand how a healthy, growing church actually runs.
  • Sit in staff meetings and leadership conversations to learn the weight and rhythm of church leadership.
  • Take ownership of a defined ministry project or area for the length of the residency, with real responsibility and real accountability.
  • Practice generosity and evangelism as a way of life, not a program, inviting, giving, and going as a normal rhythm of ministry.
Qualifications
  • A growing, tested relationship with Jesus Christ and a clear sense of calling to vocational pastoral ministry.
  • Full alignment with CCE’s mission, vision, and core values, and with a Calvary Chapel approach to Scripture: verse‑by‑verse, expository, whole‑Bible teaching.
  • A teachable, humble spirit, willing to be corrected, coached, and shaped, not just credentialed.
  • Evidence of gifting and character through prior ministry involvement, such as serving, leading a group, teaching, or similar.
  • Willingness to relocate to, and root in, the Treasure Valley for the full term of the residency.
  • Willingness to become an active member of CCE and submit to its leadership and doctrine for the duration of the program.
