SBC Executive Committee is seeking a Pastoral Care/Missions Pastor to serve Full Time at First Moss Bluff Church. The role combines two 50% areas: pastoral care and missions, with emphasis on relational presence, care systems, and mobilizing the church for local and global missions.

The candidate will lead the Deacon body, train volunteers, oversee care and visitation teams, and collaborate with staff to integrate care and discipleship across ministries.

Job Title: Pastoral Care/Missions Pastor

Position Status: Full Time

Position Support: Full-time assistant reporting directly/solely to Pastoral Care/Missions Pastor

Role Mission

The Pastoral Care/Missions Pastor has the responsibility and joy of ministering to the First Moss Bluff church body through relational presence. The pastor serves as the primary point of contact for all ministries and persons related to pastoral care. In the area of missions, the Pastor will serve and strengthen the global church by mobilizing the First Moss Bluff community into increased and effective missions engagement, both locally and globally, following Acts 1:8.

Pastoral Care (50%)

  • A church, though large in attendance, where members feel cared for and connected through a church care system.
  • Care teams in place with people that have a heart to minister to their fellow church family and understand the vision of First Moss Bluff and its expectations
  • A church with a pastoral presence in life events, such as weddings and funerals

    Build and lead a care team (primarily, but not only, consisting of our Deacons) to provide scalable care.
  • Oversee First Moss Bluff’s benevolence ministry, coordinating practical help with wisdom and compassion in partnership with the Spiritual Formation Pastor and Small Group Champions
  • Create and maintain systems for tracking care needs and ensuring follow-up through church data base and digital resources

• Team Leadership

  • Lead the Deacon body
  • Train and support volunteers who serve in pastoral care roles—meals, check‑ins, grief support, transportation, etc.
  • Provide guidance and training to those serving on the visitation or support teams.
  • Equip others to offer Christ-centered care in their spheres of influence.

• Team Collaboration

  • Work with the Senior Adult Pastor and team
  • Work with staff and volunteers to ensure care and discipleship are integrated across ministries.
  • Participate in staff meetings, chapels, development, Sunday services, and leadership planning as a visible and collaborative member of the team.

Missions (50%)

  • A church who serves their local area frequently, bringing the gospel and showing the goodness of the Lord to grow the Church. Examples would be quarterly serve opportunities like: opening day, Sam Houston Football, Serve Week and local partnership weekend.
  • A community that sees First Moss Bluff as irresistible and feels comfortable and welcome to visit to hear the truth of the Bible and receive hope
  • Ministries that integrate missions into their execution/strategy through partnership and guidance of the Missions Care Pastor
  • Members are presented with well-organized opportunities to serve on national/international mission trips that multiply interest and engagement.
    • Year one: ongoing mission trip and new a family-friendly trip offered
    • Year two: multiple partnerships and trips throughout the year

• What You Will Own

  • All Mission Trips

    • Oversee policies, budget, communications, missions goals/objectives.
    • Continually challenge our church family to think and live missionally, both locally and globally.
    • Make missions opportunities visible to entire church
    • Provide training and equipping in forms of evangelism and service
    • Communicate mission plans with the Directional Team for approval
    • Champion the story of missions with the help of the Creative Team for effective communications

  • Local Missions

    • Build upon current missions program, while helping to develop new strategies for the future.
    • Assess the strengths of our current local partners and develop a comprehensive strategic plan for local engagement moving forward.
    • Collaborate with other ministries and age groups to integrate missions into their rhythms
    • Plan and organize local outreach events in and for the community.
    • Mobilize and equip church members for local outreach

  • National/International Missions

    • Build upon current missions program, while helping to develop new strategies for the future.
    • Assess the strengths of our current national/international partners and develop a comprehensive strategic plan for engagement moving forward.
    • Plan and organize ongoing short-term mission trips to national/international partners. (includes securing transportation and accommodations)
    • Annually offer a minimum of one mission trip at an opportune time for students and families (recognizing school calendars, etc)
    • Develop strategic plans for potential future national/international partnerships.

  • Coordinating/Supporting with Mission Partners

    • Build and maintain relationships with local partners through regular church engagement and consistent communication with partner leadership.
    • Build and maintain relationships with national/international partners through consistent communication with partner leadership and a healthy schedule of field visitation.
    • Develop a strategy for championing each local and international partner.
    • Develop a strategic missionary care plan for international missionaries
