Job summary

First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls seeks a Pastor of Congregational Life to lead pastoral care, discipleship, and faith formation across all ages. The role partners with the Lead Pastor and care teams to nurture spiritual growth and missional living within a CRCNA framework.

You will train and support Elder, Deacon, and Lay Shepherd Care Teams, oversee small groups, and occasionally teach adult Bible studies.

Qualifications

Role Description: ThePastor of Congregational Lifeprovides leadership and oversight for the pastoral care of the congregation, supporting spiritual growth, discipleship, and faith formation at every stage of life. This includes training, equipping, and supporting the Elder, Deacon, and Lay Shepherd Care Teams through annual fall training, crisis intervention, bedside presence at the time of death, and access to compassionate care resources. The pastor also leads discipleship and spiritual formation initiatives rooted in the Reformed faith and practice by facilitating small group ministry, training small group leaders, helping them select sound study materials, and working with staff and care team leaders to develop mentoring and discipleship plans for all ages. This role includes occasionally leading or teaching adult Bible studies and faith-development opportunities, collaborating weekly with the Lead Pastor on the church’s vision, mission, and plans for faith formation that lead to missional living, and occasionally joining the Lead Pastor in team preaching or providing pulpit supply as needed. The Pastor of Congregational Life also meets weekly with the Lead Pastor and Administrator to support staff operations and ministry initiatives, assess communication and recommend improvements, provide pastoral guidance and assist with conflict resolution when requested, and help ensure transparency and confidentiality in communication with the congregation and community. The pastor will also be available to officiate weddings and funerals at the request of families.

Qualificationsinclude a preference for, but not a requirement of, ordination in the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), or ordination in a church in ecclesiastical fellowship with the CRCNA, with a willingness to pursue CRCNA credentials. Candidates with credentials outside these categories may also be considered on a case-by-case basis, consistent with good local church order and covenantal fellowship with the CRCNA.
