Job summary

Abbeville First Baptist Church in Abbeville, GA, seeks a full-time or bi-vocational Pastor to lead and grow our rural church. The pastor will preach, teach God’s Word, oversee spiritual life, and provide pastoral care for members. He should meet biblical elder/pastor qualifications and align with SBC beliefs.

The role includes collaboration with church leadership, administration of meetings, and opportunities for secondary income while serving our community. Parsonage is available.

Qualifications

• Must meet the elder/pastor qualifications as outlined in Scripture.
• Must wholeheartedly subscribe to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
• The pastor will lead preaching, worship and spiritual oversight for the church.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Abbeville First Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a full time or bi-vocational Pastor to lead and grow our church. We are a small, rural church located in Abbeville, Georgia (Wilcox County). The Pastor will serve as the spiritual leader of our church. His primary responsibilities include the faithful preaching and teaching of God’s Word, the spiritual oversight of the congregation, and the strategic leadership of the church ministries. He must meet the biblical qualifications of an elder/pastor as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

Key Qualifications & Responsibilities

• Theological Alignment: Must wholeheartedly subscribe to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
• Preaching: Serve as the primary preacher for Sunday and Wednesday services, preaching biblically grounded sermons and lead corporate worship.
• Work collaboratively with deacons, committees, and church leadership.
• Administration: Preside over business meetings and serve as an ex-officio member of church and associational committees.
• Pastoral Care
  • Shepherding: Provide biblical counseling, hospital visitation, and support for church members in times of crisis.
  • Ordinances: Administer the ordinances of Believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
  • Officiating: Conduct weddings and funerals for the church family.
• Education: A degree from an SBC-affiliated or accredited evangelical seminary is preferred.
• Experience: Experience in pastoral ministry with a proven track record of leadership is preferred.
• Character:

  • Passion for the Great Commission and service in our community.

Pastorium/Parsonage available. Compensation will be discussed later. The selected pastor will have the opportunity to pursue secondary employment that supplements his income without interfering with his pastoral duties. The church aims to enhance the compensation package as it grows.
