Job summary

John Deere in East Moline, IL seeks a Part-Time Student for Factory Engineering on the X9 Combine Assembly Line. This onsite student program runs year-round, designed to augment regular staff while you work around your school schedule.

You will gain hands-on experience on the shop floor with ownership of tasks and process improvements. Applicants must be full-time students, with a Spring 2027 or later graduation date, a GPA of 2.8+, and availability for 10–20 hours weekly during the academic

• Provide daily Manufacturing Engineering support to ensure the X9 Combine Line meets safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency targets.
• Act as the first responder to shop floor issues, diagnosing problems and driving corrective actions.
• Identify and implement process improvements to move the business forward.
• Support investigation of production and quality issues, identifying root causes and sustainable solutions.
• Improve manufacturing processes through updates to operator methods, work instructions, tooling, material presentation, and workstation layouts.
• Support implementation of product and process changes, ensuring smooth production integration.
• Exhibit strong ownership in a fast-paced environment and willingness to tackle challenging situations.

The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company's regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.

Your Responsibilities

As a Manufacturing Engineering PTS supporting the X9 Combine Assembly Line, located in EastMoline, IL, you will play a hands-on, shop-floor-first role focused on execution, ownership, and results.

Additionally, you will:

• Provide daily Manufacturing Engineering support to ensure the X9 Combine Line meets safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency targets.
• Act as the first responder to shop floor issues, working directly with operations to quickly diagnose problems and drive corrective actions.
• Identify and implement process improvements that move the business forward rather than maintaining the status quo.
• Support investigation of production and quality issues, helping identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
• Improve manufacturing processes through updates to operator methods, work instructions, tooling, material presentation, and workstation layouts.
• Support implementation of product and process changes, ensuring smooth integration into production.
• This role requires strong ownership, comfort operating in a fast-paced environment, and a willingness to step into challenging situations to support the business.

What Skills You Need

• Pursuing a degree in Engineering, Software Programming or Computer Science Discipline; Others may apply.
• Must be registered as a full-time student at a U.S. local accredited college/university.
• Graduation date of Spring 2027 or later.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.
• Available to work during the academic year 10-20 hours/weekly.
• Available to work during the summer semester 30-40 hours/weekly.
• Must be able to commute to the work location in East Moline, IL on a daily basis year-round.
