Job summary

John Deere is hiring a Part-Time Student-Software Engineering intern on the UIUC campus in Champaign, IL. You will assist in building digital products used across John Deere factories and support factory logistics and operations with a modern tech stack.

The role requires you to be a full-time student at UIUC, pursuing CS or MIS, with GPA 2.8+, and 15–20 hours per week during the academic year (30–40 in summer). Onsite work on campus; visa sponsorship not available.

Qualifications

• Ideally you will be pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems; others may apply
• Must be registered as a full-time student at UIUC
• Graduation date of May 2028 or later
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
• Available to work during the academic year 15-20 hours/weekly
• Available to work during the summer semester 30-40 hours/weekly
• Must be able to commute to the work location in Champaign, Illinois, on a weekly basis year-round (NOTE: Relocation assistance is not provided.)
• Experience with at least one programming language (ie: C#, Python, Java, or JavaScript)
• Experience with a relational database management system (ie: MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server, or Oracle DB)
• Experience creating APIs/web services and front-end development
• Ability and willingness to learn additional skills and grow on the job

Responsibilities

• Build digital products that are consumed at our factories to keep the assembly lines running, and/or help with factory logistics and operations.
• These enterprise digital products are used by all the John Deere factories across the globe in managing their operations, including manufacturing our great products.
• The tools will use a modern tech stack that utilizes containerization technology, observability, and deployment pipelines that will deploy the solutions at the intelligent edge in our factories.

• Understanding of Agile software development approach
