This role involves direct, one-on-one interaction with clients, focusing on increasing desired behaviors and reducing problematic behaviors through structured interventions. This role primarily takes place at the in-home setting, occasionally in the daycare and preschool settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Implementation of Behavior Plans: Implement behavior intervention plans developed by the BCBA to address specific behavioral goals of clients.

  2. Data Collection and Analysis: Accurately record data on client behavior during sessions to track progress and outcomes of interventions.

  3. Behavioral Support: Provide direct support to clients during scheduled sessions, utilizing positive reinforcement and other approved behavior modification techniques.

  4. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the BCBA to ensure consistency in the implementation of behavior plans and discuss client progress.

  5. Documentation: Maintain thorough and organized documentation of client progress, behavior incidents, and any changes in behavior plans.

  6. Training and Education: Attend various paid company trainings related to professional development.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; some positions may require a bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or a related field.
  • Certifications:

CPR/BLS Certification: Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.

40-hour RBT Training: This is the first step to completing the RBT Certification, and is an onboarding requirement at minimum if the RBT is not yet completed.

  • Tuberculosis Screening (from the last 12 months)
  • Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with behavioral challenges is preferred.

Additionally, this job requires you to potentially work with small children, meaning an upbeat personality and ability to keep up is a must!
  • Analytical Skills: Strong observational and analytical skills to accurately collect and interpret behavioral data.

Working Conditions: This role typically takes place working in clients' homes. At times, but rarely, we do work in daycares and preschool settings.

The job may involve evening or weekend hours to accommodate clients' schedules. It can be physically and emotionally demanding, requiring patience and flexibility.

Career Path: Behavior technicians often use their experience as a stepping stone to advance in the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA). With additional education and experience, they may pursue certification as a BCBA or other roles within the behavioral health field.

Conclusion: A behavior technician plays a vital role in supporting individuals with behavioral challenges, implementing behavior intervention plans under the guidance of a BCBA. This position requires compassion, patience, and a commitment to improving clients' lives through evidence-based behavioral interventions. The certifications in CPR/BLS and RBT demonstrate readiness to handle emergencies and adhere to professional standards in behavior analysis.
