Job summary

Train America seeks a part‑time instructor to teach HVACR, electrical, and plumbing courses at our Texas training centers. Guides (instructors) train journeymen and master‑level tradespeople, delivering hands‑on labs and simulations for students across scheduled bootcamps.

You will join a team that values practical field experience, clear communication, and the ability to work around ongoing trade commitments. No degree required; licensing and field experience are the credentials.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in one of the listed trades.
• Current license/certification in your trade (e.g., Journeyman/Master) in good standing.
• EPA 608 certification for refrigerant work.
• Strong communication and team‑building skills.
• Ability to commute to training centers and teach at least 4 bootcamps per year.

Instructor (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing)

Earn more and give back as a part-time instructor doing a few courses per year: 1 Saturday + 5 Weeknights = 1 Course.

Train America employs journeyman and master level tradespeople as Instructors (we call them Guides) to train the next generation of HVACR, electrical, plumbing and maintenance technicians at our training centers embedded at distribution partner locations.

Your Responsibilities

• Inspire a group of students as their instructor.
• Facilitate elearning and simulations for students to learn the theories.
• Facilitate and oversee hands‑on activities in the lab.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience working in one of the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Facilities/Commercial Maintenance, Industrial Maintenance
• A license or certification in your trade where Texas requires one, in good standing — for example a Journeyman or Master license, or a Journeyman or Master Plumber license. EPA 608 for refrigerant work.
• Professional communication, interpersonal and team‑building skills.
• Ability to commute to one of our training center locations and teach at least 4 bootcamps per year.

What we do NOT require:

• No leaving your job. This role is designed for people still working in the trade. Staying in the field makes you a better instructor, not a conflicted one.
• No teaching experience.
• No degree. Your license and your years in the field are the credential.
• No travel. Your training is conducted at one of our training centers.
• No long‑term commitment. You sign‑up for the bootcamps that fit your schedule.
• No curriculum to write.

• Austin, Texas: Del Valle — 6807 Elroy Drive, Unit 100, Del Valle, TX 78617 (Ferguson Branch)
• Houston, Texas: 14420 W Sylvanfield Drive, Suite 110, Houston, TX 77014

Compensation

Hourly pay between $40 - 50 per hour depending on experience and credentials.
