Train America is seeking a part-time Instructor to lead hands-on bootcamps in HVACR, electrical, plumbing, and facility maintenance. Instructors volunteer as Guides at partner locations like Ferguson, teaching 4 bootcamps per year and balancing ongoing trade work.

Compensation is hourly and centers are in Austin and Houston, TX. Candidates must have 5+ years in HVAC or related maintenance, EPA 608, NATE, and TDLR credentials where required.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in HVAC, facilities/commercial maintenance or industrial maintenance.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Willingness to commute to training centers and teach at least 4 bootcamps per year.
  • EPA 608 certification required for refrigerant work.
  • NATE and TDLR credentials preferred for instructor roles.

Responsibilities

About this position

Train America is the farm system for the trades. We run short, hands‑on bootcamps in HVACR, electrical, plumbing, facility maintenance and industrial maintenance, inside of distribution partner locations like Ferguson. Our bootcamps are used by employers aiming to systematically ramp‑up their new hires as well as with new entrants to the trades looking to start their career.

Earn more and give back as a part‑time instructor doing a few courses per year: 1 Saturday + 5 Weeknights = 1 Course.

Train America employs journeyman and master‑level tradespeople as Instructors (we call them Guides) to train the next generation of HVACR, facilities maintenance, and industrial maintenance technicians at our training centers embedded at distribution partner locations.

Your Responsibilities as an Instructor:
  • Inspire a group of students as their instructor.
  • Facilitate e‑learning and simulations for students to learn the theories.
  • Facilitate and oversee hands‑on activities in the lab.
Requirements and What We Are Looking For:
  • 5 years of experience working in HVAC, Facilities/Commercial Maintenances and Industrial Maintenance.
  • Registered Technician - TDLR or applicable state, where required.
  • EPA 608 Certification for refrigerant work.
  • Authorized Instructor - Industrial Maintenance Courses
  • Professional communication, interpersonal, and team‑building skills.
  • Ability to commute to one of our training center locations and teach at least 4 bootcamps per year.
What We Do NOT Require:
  • No leaving your job. This role is designed for people still working in the trade. Staying in the field makes you a better instructor, not a conflicted one.
  • No teaching experience.
  • No degree. Your license, certifications, and years in the field are the credentials.
  • No travel. Your training is conducted at one of our training centers.
  • No long‑term commitment. You sign up for the bootcamps that fit your schedule.
  • No curriculum to write.

Compensation

Hourly pay between $40 - $50 per hour depending on experience and credentials.
