About Us

Oglebay Institute is a vibrant cultural organization committed to enriching lives through arts, nature, and education. We are seeking a part-time Curator of Exhibitions for the Stifel Fine Arts Center.

Position reports to:

Director of the Stifel Fine Arts/Visual Arts

Schedule:

Generally, works 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, subject to possible weekend and evening work.

Job Overview

Under minimal supervision, coordinates and administers the exhibition season and related programming at the Stifel Fine Arts Center and the Gallery at Towngate. Develops, organizes, and presents public programs including classes and workshops related to each exhibition.

Essential Functions
  • Facilitates the artist call for proposals, secures jurors, and develops the annual exhibition season.
  • Provides images and required information to Marketing for promotion of exhibitions.
  • Coordinates delivery, storage, and pickup of artwork.
  • Hangs and installs all exhibition shows.
  • Coordinates opening receptions for exhibitions.
  • Shares responsibility with Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) for coordinating and reporting all artwork sales.
  • Develops programming for adults and children related to the exhibition season in collaboration with visual arts staff.
  • Maintains, rents, and continues development of the Stifel’s permanent traveling collection.
  • Shares responsibility for developing and delivering visual arts programs, including:
    • Adult and children’s art classes
    • Special events
  • Communicates and coordinates with artists using the CallforEntry.org system.
  • Adheres to all Institute policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the needs of Oglebay Institute.
Physical Activity and Work Environment

The position involves light physical activity associated with non‑strenuous administrative tasks, with extended periods of sitting for computer work and occasional movement required for travel arrangements or event support. Work is primarily performed indoors in well‑lit, climate‑controlled exhibition halls, offices, and storage areas, with periods of increased activity during event preparation.

Education and Experience

Must have a bachelor's degree, preferably in fine arts, arts administration, arts management, or a related field. Must have prior experience working in the arts industry. Experience in administrative roles within the arts is preferred.
