Leonard's Express is hiring a dependable Parts & Service Assistant to support the Parts Manager and Service Writer. This role focuses on inventory control, ensuring parts are received, tracked, stocked, and recorded, while assisting with repair order documentation and service writing during peak times.

The position is located in Nampa, Idaho, with a Thursday–Monday eight-hour shift. Ideal candidates will have inventory experience, strong data-entry skills, and familiarity with Excel in a fleet

Now Hiring: Parts & Service Assistant

Location: Nampa, Idaho (Treasure Valley Shop)
Department: Shop Operations
Reports To: Parts Manager and Service Writer
Schedule: Thursday through Monday, 8-hour shifts

Position Summary

Leonard's Express is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Parts & Service Assistant to support our Parts Manager and Service Writer. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate inventory, organized parts storage, and reliable data entry for shop operations.

The primary focus of this role is inventory control, ensuring parts are properly received, tracked, stocked, and recorded. The successful candidate will also assist with repair order documentation and provide service writing support during peak periods or when coverage is needed.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in learning fleet maintenance, parts management, and transportation shop operations from the ground up.

What You'll Do

Parts & Inventory Control Support (Primary Focus)

• Receive and verify incoming parts shipments against purchase orders and packing slips.
• Report shortages, incorrect parts, or damaged shipments to the Parts Manager.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts.
• Monitor inventory levels and notify management of potential shortages.
• Ensure all parts removed from inventory are properly assigned to the correct unit and repair order.
• Assist with parts research, vendor availability checks, and order follow-up.
• Process core returns, warranty parts, and vendor returns.
• Maintain an organized parts room, including labeling, shelving, and stock management.

Data Entry

• Enter parts receipts, purchase orders, invoices, and repair order information accurately and timely.
• Match vendor invoices to purchase orders and receiving documents.
• Identify and report pricing discrepancies or billing issues.
• Maintain accurate fleet maintenance records and parts usage history.

Service Writing Support

• Assist with opening and closing repair orders.
• Receive repair requests from drivers and document concerns clearly.
• Communicate repair and parts status between technicians, vendors, dispatch, and shop personnel.
• Help track equipment status, including units in service, awaiting repair, or waiting on parts.

Requirements

Required

• Experience in parts, inventory, warehouse, administrative, or office support roles.
• Strong attention to detail and data entry accuracy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow established processes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Availability to work the scheduled Thursday through Monday shift.

Preferred

• Experience with Class 8 truck, trailer, reefer, or APU parts.
• Fleet maintenance, service office, or shop environment experience.
• Experience with inventory management or fleet maintenance software.
• Basic mechanical knowledge of truck and trailer components.
• Forklift experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move parts weighing up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and climb as needed in a shop environment.
• Ability to work safely in both office and maintenance shop settings.
