Job summary

A.O. Smith is seeking a Material Handler to support production through efficient material movement, inventory control, and warehouse organization. You will read work orders, ensure timely stocking, and maintain clean, safe work areas while flexibly supporting various tasks and stations.

The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, operate a picker and forklift, and stand/walk throughout the shift. A high school diploma or GED is required.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proficiency with basic computer tasks is expected.

Job description

Primary Function

Candidate will be responsible for completing training and performing the following job functions:

Responsibilities
  1. Pulls materials to the assembly station for production. Returns the empty totes to the warehouse.
  2. Replenish warehouse with new stock, keeping oldest stock in front.
  3. Bring literature packagers to the workstations needed for production.
  4. Responsible for maintaining organized, identified racks and staging areas.
  5. Responsible for communication with supervisor and leaders of potential parts shortages, or overages for manufactured items.
  6. Assist with removal of cardboard, pallets and trash.
  7. Assist with daily cycle counts and inventory control in production areas.
  8. Read work orders, production schedules, or follow oral instructions to determine materials needed.
  9. Responsible for overall shop cleanliness and appearance.
  10. Will perform Material Handler functions as needed in accordance with required work instructions, such as forklift license and use of Warehouse scanners.
  11. Must be flexible and willing to work in different areas and on different tasks
  12. Must be able to safely operate a picker and a forklift
  13. Must be able to stand and walk for entire shift, without the need to sit down
  14. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  15. Comply with all the safety, quality, and procedure requirements as noted in the applicable Work Instructions.
  16. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
  • Employee must have good job performance and attendance.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Must be a self-starter, well organized, able to work both independently and as a team member, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Education

High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing and frequent bending and reaching.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and with assistance.
