Job summary

Trueline Talent's client in Central Connecticut seeks a Parts Manager to lead parts inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships for a busy maintenance operation. This hands-on role will ensure timely parts availability to keep mechanics and equipment moving.

The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience in parts/purchasing, strong procurement know-how, and excellent organizational skills to balance cost, availability, and speed.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in parts, purchasing, inventory management, or related field.
  • Experience working with parts for trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, or similar machinery.
  • Strong understanding of parts procurement and inventory control.
  • Ability to research and compare pricing, availability, and delivery options.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory and purchasing records.
  • Comfortable communicating with mechanics, vendors, managers, and field personnel.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee parts inventory for trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
  • Coordinate daily parts requests from mechanics and maintenance personnel.
  • Review parts needs, identify purchasing options, and consult with maintenance leadership.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with parts suppliers and service vendors.
  • Research pricing, availability, lead times, and alternative sourcing options.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs through competitive purchasing and online sourcing.
  • Manage and enforce the purchase order process.
  • Coordinate and assign Parts Runners across shifts based on shop needs.
  • Work with the Shop Foreman and mechanics to evaluate repair options and cost solutions.
  • Maintain purchasing, inventory, pricing, delivery, and vendor records.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Investigate defective parts and coordinate warranty claims with vendors.
  • Expedite critical parts to minimize downtime.
  • Improve procedures for parts counter, stockroom, and parts delivery.
  • Evaluate workflow to improve parts movement and availability.
  • Support the maintenance operation with parts-related questions and vendor coordination.

Trueline's client, a well-established organization with a substantial fleet and heavy equipment operation, is seeking a Parts Manager to join their team in Central Connecticut. This hands‑on role will oversee parts inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and day‑to‑day support for a busy maintenance operation. The ideal candidate is an organized, resourceful parts professional who understands heavy equipment and can balance cost, availability, and speed to keep mechanics and equipment moving.

What You'll Do as the Parts Manager:
  • Oversee parts inventory for trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
  • Coordinate daily parts requests from mechanics and maintenance personnel
  • Review parts needs, identify appropriate purchasing options, and consult with maintenance leadership when needed
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with parts suppliers and service vendors
  • Research pricing, availability, lead times, and alternative sourcing options
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs through competitive purchasing and online/e‑commerce sourcing
  • Manage and enforce the proper use of the purchase order process
  • Coordinate and assign Parts Runners across shifts based on shop needs

  • Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, pricing, delivery, and vendor records

Must‑Haves as the Parts Manager:
  • 3-5 years of experience in parts, purchasing, inventory management, or a related field
  • Experience working with parts for trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, or similar machinery
  • Strong understanding of parts procurement and inventory control
  • Ability to research and compare pricing, availability, and delivery options
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory and purchasing records
  • Comfortable communicating with mechanics, vendors, suppliers, managers, and field personnel
  • Ability to prioritize urgent parts needs in a busy maintenance environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
Nice‑to‑Haves as the Parts Manager:
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience in a fleet, maintenance, or parts environment
  • Experience supporting truck, trailer, construction, paving, or heavy equipment fleets
  • Familiarity with warranty claims and vendor resolution processes
  • Experience with computerized inventory or parts management systems
  • Experience using e‑commerce platforms to source parts and identify cost savings
  • Knowledge of purchase order systems and procurement procedures
  • Mechanical knowledge or experience working closely with heavy equipment mechanics
  • Experience improving stockroom organization, parts workflows, or inventory procedures
