Job summary

Pacer Group is seeking an experienced Business/Commercial Litigation Partner in California to lead sophisticated matters from inception through trial. You will manage client relations, direct litigation strategy, and guide teams including associates and paralegals.

The role requires active California bar admission, trial experience, and the ability to independently oversee complex civil and commercial disputes. Remote, hybrid, or onsite arrangements are supported.

Responsibilities

• Manage business, commercial, and civil litigation from inception through resolution.
• Develop litigation strategy and evaluate liability, damages, and exposure.
• Handle pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, hearings, and trial prep.
• Lead and supervise attorneys and support staff; mentor associates.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships and provide updates.

Compensation: The anticipated annual compensation range is $200,000–$500,000+, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

About the Opportunity:

A leading national Am Law firm is seeking an experienced Business / Commercial Litigation Partner to join its California litigation practice.

This opportunity is open to attorneys with experience in Business Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation, or other complex litigation matters. The firm is interested in attorneys who can independently manage sophisticated litigation matters, lead litigation teams, and work directly with clients.

Attorneys with or without a book of business may be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage business, commercial, and civil litigation matters from inception through resolution.
• Develop litigation strategy and evaluate liability, damages, and exposure.
• Handle pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trial preparation.
• Draft complaints, answers, motions, briefs, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct complex legal research and factual analysis.
• Analyze contracts, business disputes, commercial claims, and other complex civil matters.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
• Communicate directly with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
• Manage multiple matters independently while maintaining high-quality work product.
• Lead and supervise attorneys, paralegals, legal secretaries, and other litigation support professionals.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to associates and other team members.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Contribute to the growth and development of the firm's litigation practice.

Qualifications:

• Active California Bar license and admission required.
• Experience in Business Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation, or Complex Civil Litigation.
• Experience handling cases from inception through trial.
• Trial experience is required.
• Strong experience with pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and depositions.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
• Excellent communication and client-management skills.
• Ability to independently manage complex litigation matters.
• Ability to lead and supervise attorneys and legal support professionals.
• Strong case-management and litigation strategy skills.
• Portable book of business is welcome but not required.
• Attorneys with strong litigation experience but without a portable book of business are encouraged to apply.
