Job description

Job Summary:

The Production Technician plays a crucial role in our production process by operating machinery and equipment to manufacture particle board products. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and quality.

All new employees are required to:

  1. Operate a forklift to handle bunks of particle board.
    • The bunks can measure 8 to 12 feet long and approximately 3 feet tall.
    • Using the fork, you will be required to move up to 2 bunks at a time and to stack up to 7 bunks.
    • Operating a forklift may be as needed or for the full 12 hour shift.
  2. Use a computer to monitor processes as well as communicate with teams through Microsoft applications.
  3. Follow the rotating work schedule of 12 hour shifts.
    • Workdays rotate consistently each week; rotate between working 3 12-hour days and 4 12-hour days a week along with 2 weekends off a month.
    • Rotate between working days 7:00 am – 7:00 pm and nights 7:00 pm – 7:00 am every two weeks.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Machine Operation: Operate machinery involved in particle board production, including chippers, dryers, presses, and sanders, according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  2. Quality Control: Monitor production processes to ensure particle board products meet quality standards, including size, thickness, density, and surface finish.
  3. Material Handling: Assist with the handling and transportation of raw materials, such as wood chips and resins, to feed into production machinery.
  4. Setup and Adjustment: Assist in the setup and adjustment of machinery and equipment for different production runs, ensuring proper settings and specifications are met.
  5. Maintenance Support: Perform routine maintenance tasks on production equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts, to ensure optimal performance.
  6. Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or production issues, collaborating with maintenance teams to implement solutions and minimize downtime.
  7. Safety Compliance: Always adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in safety training programs.
  8. Documentation: Maintain accurate production records, including production logs, quality inspection reports, and equipment maintenance records.
  9. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the production team to coordinate workflow and ensure efficient production operations.

Safety Requirements:

  1. Must place safety as the priority demonstrating safe working behaviors and be a model for proper PPE use, including wearing a hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and other PPE as required.
  2. Demonstrates thorough use and participation in the understanding of all required safety policies and procedures.
  3. Works actively to maintain housekeeping responsibilities.
  4. Maintains lockout certifications as assigned.
  5. Actively participate and positively contribute to the safety program.
  6. Report all safety incidents (including near misses).
  7. Complete LASER for any upset condition or procedure.
  8. Ensure Arauco exercises responsible environmental stewardship in all areas of our business.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  2. Climbing and working at heights as needed including mobile ladders and aerial platforms.
  3. Bending, squatting, twisting as required.
  4. Ability to lift 50lbs as needed.
  5. Ability to work in both hot and cold weather environments as needed daily.
  6. Must be comfortable moving throughout large manufacturing environment with multiple buildings.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum 1 year Forklift experience is beneficial.
  2. Effectively communicate verbally and by e-mail.
  3. A high school diploma or GED is required.
  4. Must be 18 years or older.
  5. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  6. Post offer you must be able to pass a drug screen, background check and physical capability assessment.
