In this position, you will travel 100% of the time to work on multiple high-profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more in many geographical areas. General Responsibilities:

The Traveling Construction Technician will perform various observations and tests on construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, and asphalt. Throughout the projects, you will communicate with Project Managers, client representatives, contractor’s representatives, and other key stakeholders regarding testing and inspection results. Tests are performed on building construction projects and further tested in Terracon laboratories. Successful candidates will receive in-depth technical training and professional certifications as they advance in the position.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Travel to and from projects as they are assigned to you.
  2. Under direction of staff professionals or project managers, assist with tasks and perform basic sample tests and observation of soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, and asphalt.
  3. Document and prepare sample testing and observation data using a laptop or tablet device; submit findings accurately to a Project Manager and effectively communicate testing and inspection results.
  4. Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.
  5. Ensure that all testing equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained.
  6. Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  7. Maintain quality standards on all projects and work cohesively as a team.
  8. Transport materials safely from various job sites to the lab using a company-provided vehicle.

Requirements:

  1. Travel 100% is required.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
  4. Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  5. ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
  • Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
  • Concrete Strength Testing Technician
  • Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Preferred Certification:

    1. Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
    • NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in one or more of the following categories: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
    • NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in one or more of the following categories: Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist.
    • ICC certification in one or more of the following categories: Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
    • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
    • American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in more than one of the following areas: Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
  • Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
  • This position has been categorized as a 'Remote Only' position. “Remote Only” employees do not have a designated workspace at an office and typically work from home or another location.

    The national standard salary range for this position is $19.00-$26.75. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
