Job summary

YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area in Gahanna, OH is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach progressive aquatic skills in a safe, engaging environment. Daytime and evening shifts are available; must be 16+ and a strong swimmer.

Responsibilities include leading classes, ensuring safety, communicating with families, keeping attendance, and following YMCA policies. Certification requirements include CPR/First Aid within 60 days and YMCA Swim Lesson within one year.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age and able to swim.
• American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Oxygen Administration certification must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
• Must obtain YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) instructor certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, safe, and educational swim classes as directed by the supervisor to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Ensures participant safety during the program by educating about, and enforcing safety rules and maintaining class control.
• Openly communicates with participants and their parents to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living; appraises students and their parents of strengths and areas for improvement.
• Keeps accurate class attendance and skill evaluation records.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations and participates in drills and procedures to the highest level of training.
• Builds authentic relationships with members and helps members connect with the YMCA.
