Job summary

Lake Superior YMCA seeks a Part-time Referee in Downtown Duluth, MN. You will oversee youth and adult league games, uphold safety, and promote sportsmanship within YMCA policies.

Responsibilities include supervising games, teaching core values, engaging with players and families, and ensuring a positive, structured environment. Prior officiating experience is preferred; CPR/AED/First Aid within 60 days is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15 and enrolled in high school.
• Knowledge of the sport and basic rules.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership and enthusiasm on court or field.
• Friendly, outgoing, and have a clear understanding of the YMCA’s Mission Statement.
• Experience working with children and adults; officiating preferred.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire if not currently certified.

Responsibilities

• Model, teach, and incorporate the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
• Interact with participants in a positive manner and build relationships with youth, adults, and staff.
• Maintain a friendly atmosphere and promote good sportsmanship while supervising games.
• Do not accept gifts from parents, players, coaches, or volunteers.
• Arrive on time in staff attire for game preparation.
• Provide customer service to fulfill participants' needs and use teachable moments.
• Ensure participant safety and immediately report accidents/incidents.
• Set up/tear down equipment and assist custodial staff as needed.
• Provide an encouraging, organized environment for coaches, participants, volunteers, and parents.
• Read, understand, and enforce league rules using whistle and communication.
• Supervise participants at all times and address hazards promptly.
• Follow safety rules and emergency procedures; know location of equipment.
• Attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.
