Job summary

Laramie County Library System is seeking a Youth Services Assistant to deliver friendly, front-line service to children, teens, and caregivers in Cheyenne. You will work as part of a team with the Youth Services Manager and Assistant Manager to advance literacy goals and the library’s mission.

The role requires assisting patrons, conducting reference interviews, and guiding users in databases, programs, and digital resources. A flexible schedule is needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus six months of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write English.

Responsibilities

• Provide welcoming, responsive customer service to children, teens, and caregivers.
• Assist patrons with reference interviews and readers’ advisory.
• Teach use of library computers, databases, and other resources.
• Move throughout youth areas to assist patrons as needed.
• Prepare children's and teen areas for daily service and follow opening/closing procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of children’s and teen collections and early literacy components.
• Support and assist in planning library programs for youth.
• Monitor patron behavior per library rules.
• Perform other duties at public service points.
